I'm doing a Hellfire run using my original CDs, and while in the Hive I open a chest. There is a pause and the CD starts spinning (always happens when a new sound gets loaded), then there is a sort of "burp" sound and all my mana is gone. Since I was doing mana shield at the time, and the chest was a bit obscured, I just assumed it was a damage trap on the chest, and didn't more of it.

Then on Level 7 of the original Diablo, I find another chest, I open it and there is another similar burp sound and all the potions in my belt change to a different type.

Is this something that was added by Hellfire? I don't remember coming across those chests in my original run. And wiki mentions nothing.

yes these are hellfire traps
Per Jarulf's Guide, section 4.3, page 80, there are 3 traps new in Hellfire:

- Ring of Fire
- Mana Drain: drains all your mana, and can affect other characters on the same floor
- Disenchant potions: each potion on your belt has a 50% chance to be affected, with the type of effect depending on the initial type of the potion:
-- Full Healing: Healing
-- Full Mana: Mana
-- Full Rejuvenation:
Rejuvenation - 33%
Full Healing - 33%
Full Mana - 33%
-- Healing: destroyed
-- Mana: destroyed
-- Rejuvenation:
Healing - 50%
Mana - 50%
Thank you.
