- Install the game via WINE or unpack it via innoextract
(- If you're running the old CD version like me, patch it to the last version and then copy diabdat.mpq from the CD into the game's folder, not needed if you use the digitally sold version)
- Extract the files from the mod (https://mod.diablo.noktis.pl/download) into the game's folder
- Run Belzebub.exe via WINE

If you encounter an SFX initialisation error, here is a fix:

Download the "Win32 and Win64 binaries" from https://kcat.strangesoft.net/openal.html (openal-soft-1.19.1-bin.zip)
copy the file "/openal-soft-1.19.1-bin/bin/Win32/soft_oal.dll" into the game directory and rename it to "wrap_oal.dll"
(remove any dll overrides in winecfg for Belzebub.exe if you made some)

I just checked on GOG's package.
After installing using wine (causing crashes when installing DirectX 9.0c), diabdat.mpq is included in the game directory.
While the game it self doesn't run (freezes in the main menu) it should be playable with the mod.

Diablo played perfectly with this, I didn't have to install OpenAL 1.1.

I Just dropped all the files in the diablo folder, started a new game, changed video options and cleared the first floor.

that is a lot of work ... buying game should prevent us doing all the hard labour ....

it's like hiring a company to build a house for you, you pay all the $ , and in the end you did all the hard work ...too..

Anyway that's not what i had in mind, you see if we need to tweak and play around to make a game work we actually paid for, would'nt we be better of searchin around for free old stuff ? then all the hard labor would be logical, cause we did all the work ourselves.

Ahwell ... i uninstalled the game and , voila it is gone, in a few days i forget all about it but be even more carefull buying at release, already stopped getting games at listprice on Steam, cause 3 to 4 months later the games are 70% off :D , wanted to get a new pc, but the longer i wait the less likely i will get a new PC :D , many disapointments make you tougher ... and less gullible which is a good sign.

It's worth the effort. The mod not only makes it run so much better than the base game when using Wine, but it adds a lot of quality of life things like a private stash and Adria replenishes magic for free. The mod also adds Necromancer class.

Indeed. Although I'd really like to have a pure HD patch without the changes, I for one like the mod in its entirety.

This is and old game and pretty cheap so its bad but not that bad ... imagine a new game at 79 euros / dollars

Just to set things right: You buy a game which is advertised for Windows only and start complaining about not being able to play it on another operating system? If GOG adds support later that's just service and nothing you can expect.
Your comparison with the painter is just hilarious. It's like you buy a paint box and hire a painter to paint a house and and since you paid him, you expect him to paint a second one for free.

I hope you don't work in a business where your customer pays you for one thing and expects you to do additional stuff for free.

Well if i were able to do all the patching myself without having to use Google or ask any one else, be it in forum, support or other, i started my own gamingfix business :(◑‿◐)

Seems we spend more time fixing or searching for fixes then actually playing the game(s), in a way this might be a good sign, showing the old games are goners, and cause too many problems, this way you will get the default: "told you old games wont work", and "the past is the past and we have to move on" ( playing all the new ( win 10) games ( no matter if they sux are expensive and need a expensive i7 or 9) replies.

Anyway after watching some win 10 videos i guess i stick with the old machine until it 'expires' and stops working cause paying so much money for a shitty win 10, get may bad forced update that ruin the gaming experience, seems to have some ads in the windows ( unless you buy the expensive versions) and more she ites we are currently not aware of, it is a shame we have to pay for such a bad OS.

I won't ever pay for an OS again as long as the free alternative is actually faster and more reliable by now and imho even more user friendly thanks to certain distros.

If it was easy to learn like windows, i would .... i mean i got used to win 95 pretty fast ,my main problem is the UI, UI changed too many times after 2K, thats why i used classic this way i had a familair UI and could almost find things blindly, well at least with one eye closed as a matter of speaking :D.

Anyway win 10 = awfull, horrible, terrible, sh**ty , user unfriendly , loaded with 'ads' , full of spyware, eh i mean spyware with a build in OS, always mix them, up ●‿● , the list is endless ... , and most of all too expensive

Well, running a Linux distro--it's expected, right? Part and parcel of the Linux "experience"...;) Which leads me to the obvious question: why run a game on Linux if there's no native Linux version? Because you know going in that the game will not be a bit better on Linux--and may, if you can get it to run reliably--actually come off *worse*--due to stuff like open source GPU drivers, and etc.

Speak for yourself about spending more time "searching for fixes"... To what?...;) I don't have that experience with Win10, myself--never have had a problem like that. Most games are "plug & play"--install 'em and run 'em.

BTW, old games work just fine--I ought to know, as I've got 329 games installed just under GOG and most of those are "old games"--don't have a problem. Don't own a single game that won't run fine under Win10x64, btw. What are you running now...DOS?....;)

Win10 is far, far away from being "shitty"...seems you watch too many 3rd-class "videos"..which can be bad for your mental health, according to the Surgeon General. I ought to know about that, too--as I am on version 1903, build 18353.1--the latest beta build--it's rock-solid. You are just probably not cut out for personal computing--perhaps a console would much better fit your frame of mind--you don't have to know much of anything to run one of those...Because if you can't handle Win10--you definitely cannot handle a Linux distro--trust me on that...;)

Linux or Windows, you seem to have just an all-around rotten view of personal computing, if you'll forgive me for saying so.

I tried WIndows 7, 8 and 10.
As someone who has used a user friendly Linux (Mint) for 7 years now, Windows seemed more user unfriendly to me by each generation, especially if you have to fiddle around to not have all the spyware to be running all the time and stealing performance to take away any resemblance of privacy.
And it's so badly optimized, that you need twice as much RAM than for even the most demanding Linux distros, paying for that with money or private data? Haha, no.
