First of all, it's undoubtedly a good thing that this has happened, amazing, and a real win for the preservation of great and iconic games.

However, was Diablo 1 actually the highest voted game?

The store page says "The most voted game on the GOG.com wishlist, finally trapped in a DRM-free soulstone!"

But the most voted entry is Diablo 1, 2 and 3 + Expansion Packs.
Not only does this not (Yet? Please?) contain the Hellfire Expansion, but it's also the combined votes for three games.

If we were to, for example combine Black and White (37,581) and Black and White 2, (28,626) that would be higher than Diablo's 56,092, although I am not sure how many of those would be doubles, presumably a few.

I know it's good marketing to phrase this as the most voted, but really this is me just selfishly trying to bring your attention and efforts towards another set of games equally close to my heart, you've done something great today, and I'd love to see you do it again, I appreciate the hard work!
Hurray for accuracy. I'm not even interested in diablo 1&2 because the boxed version work just fine. But I had to skip D3 because of the b.net BS that was essentially DRM. A DRM free version of D3, now that's something I'd actually want.
While I'd love Hellfire to be added, it's pretty unlikely as it wasn't made by Blizzard and I'm not even sure if they have the rights to still sell it.

And it also doesn't have multiplayer officially.
Before they merged all the games in the franchise, it was, for a long time, the #1 request.
Hellfire has not been considered an official expansion for quite some time. Hellfire actually uses an older version of Diablo. They received separate patching.
It's well and good that a title receives the most votes, etc. But it's not the votes that decide the issue--it's whether GOG can secure distribution rights from the current owner of the game. Amazingly, some companies would rather the IP simply rot in place than to actually turn it over for some revenue!

Of this I am well aware, and I certainly do not want to diminish this achievement, however I would like to make sure they've earned the right to that claim, if Diablo 1 alone did have the most votes pre-merge, fair enough, but as it is, I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for that claim to be questioned.

It's certainly a claim that makes them look good, especially if it really is accurate, but if it's not, there's no reason they cannot simply try their hardest to make it so, even if the results do not bear fruit.
