Does GOG's version of Diablo support LAN as a multiplayer connection option or do you need to go through Blizzard's Battle.net client's servers?

Edit:
From what I've just read in this thread it appears that Diable does have LAN support:

This is correct, Diablo has LAN multiplayer. I have tested it myself, so I know it works.
LAN works, but beware that it requires the game to find the other players via broadcast. Some games that offer "LAN" play will actually allow you to play with anyone whose IP address you know, even if they are only reachable over the Internet. Diablo is not such a game. Non-battle.net play requires that the players be together on a LAN (or be using software which emulates a LAN).
