Has anyone ever talked about how buggy this spell is? Even Jarulf seems to have not even noted it from what I've seen.

Basically, monsters will glitch out when they hit you if the amount of damage returned is higher than your current health.
(This is true even without Mana Shield, because the damage returned does not factor this spell's damage reduction.)

What happens is that monster if weak enough will hit you, play its death sound and drop its item if any, yet continue to be alive. It can continue to hit you and will even repeatedly kill itself off of your Reflect and will even drop duplicates of its loot that can't be picked up (usually) and that item will poof if you try. Glitched monsters are immune to all forms of damage but can will die immediately if you hit them with Stone Curse or a rune of stone.

It's especially a problem if you're doing the low-health strat on sorc or a rogue minimage because that opens up everything hitting you to bugging out

All the issues should be fixed as of DevilutionX 1.4.0 (1.4.1 is the latest as of writing). A good chunk of issues came from being based on the 1.04 version of manashield which itself is quite buggy, but like you note there where also several additional issues with it.

This topic is about Reflect, but you were so desperate to copy paste your mod link for the nth time that it went over your head

No I was actually just trying to share some information regarding reflect. If you take a second look at my message you might notice that I didn't actually post a link for the mod, and shared some details as to the source of issues.

Mentioning that we fixed it was a shorthand to let you know that it has been talked about by others before and you can find notes about it within the project history which seams directly relevant to your topic.

P.s. did you know that reflect can also stop working after loading a save game? This is mentioned in our change log, which is a pretty decent reference for known bugs in the original game.

I'm just trying to help and engage with the community.

Yeah. Many modmakers have issues with that. Mmm... maybe only online-oriented mods\-remakes? Not always properly describe what is it their project, advert it too much. Someone did that in lite way, someone worse - in more toxic way (especially when it about patreon-subscriptions features?).

But still, their (im still not specific to this one) project for implement QoL and bugfixing (ideally).

This one is for old enough Diablo 1 - useful remake. This thread is about ingame bugs. This game have some, especially with Hellfire addon (that use differ game build than latest original game). Answer in this thread without mentioning fan-made projects be incomplete. Moreover, since this is ingame original bug - there is no else solution. This time it is absolutely relevant answer nott just mention but suggest use DevilutionX.

Or maybe use diablo.exe. Im personally think it is most useless method. There is still something ingame glitches-bugs possible. You just miss portion of official content. If you want play non-Hellfire version, you can use another method - play Sony Playstation version (in emulator for PC) (with some own features and gamepad controls, also official MULTI localisations). Emulator, official GOG Diablo: Hellfire as is with some bugged and old controls, or fan-made remakes for comfort game.

Wouldn't this mean that it only applies if either (a) you die because you took fatal damage without Mana Shield up or (b) you trigger the Mana Shield no-stun bug because you briefly die, then Mana Shield cancels that death? If so, this seems like a relatively obscure bug, since if you die, you aren't around to notice how broken Reflect is. If you had Mana Shield up, you should keep your health up to avoid triggering the Mana Shield no-stun bug due to its severe impact on game balance.

This sounds like its health was reduced to at/below 0, but it was not marked as dead, so it continues to operate. From what I recall of the Devilution code (which can be taken as a proxy for the never-released Diablo code), the original developers did not do a good job of centralizing death logic, so it's very possible that there are some paths where monsters die properly and other, more obscure ones like this, where a key step gets skipped.

What strategy is this? Keeping your HP below your character level so that every hit that would stun you instead triggers the Mana Shield no-stun bug?

You so desperately tried to be funny you turned out to be an asshole as usual, oh well
Looks like you also can't read
What he meant is that REFLECT is based on MANASHIELD - is this simple enough for you to grasp or should I try to explain using sticks and animal sounds?
