No the IP was not abandoned, however Diablo 1 was no longer legalally available for purchase nor supported by Blizzard. Thats abandonware by definition.

It's not a justification, it was fact...nonwithstanding that I've bought numerous copies of Diablo over the years at various price points. So yes, It's annoying that I've bought the exact same thing that I already have.

Diablo was never free. Free games are available for download from Blizzard - Starcraft and Blackthorne are examples.

Yes I guess when most read Hi-resolution, they were expecting true widescreen support like Bezelbub, not upscaling.

It would be a dream for a lite Bezelbub HD version without all the extra gameplay changes that comes with a mod. While it's a fine mod on its own, it just changes too much of the original game for a first time player.

The fact that there are two versions, the "high res" one not being able to connect to Battle.net (where having a higher resolution could be an unfair advantage) also led me to think so.

Save your strength OP, these forums are infested with blind loyalists who cannot see or an simply unwilling to admit that this is nothing more than a re-re-re-release on GOG with zero new enhancements which weren't already freely avaliable for D1 on the internet, and frankly done better!

DiabloPatch comes to mind with difficulty settings in SP and some welcome QoL changes, made by one talented guy mind you.
