Hello all. Diablo II Resurrected seems to be a success, doing what it more-or-less set out to do: give an oldie-but-goodie classic game a graphical update.

As I understand it, the company that did D2 Resurrected (that Blizzard contracted) did this by having the graphical update operate on a layer above of the source game layer, resulting in the same game but with the graphical update. (Which is how the old and new graphics can be toggled in-game with just a keystroke.)

So, anybody heard anything about Blizzard and Co. perhaps doing the same with the original 1997 Diablo?

Ah.. forget about it.
In 2006/07 everybody was excited for Diablo's ten year anniversary. Even Diablo 2 LoD was already old back then.
Afaik all Blizzard did to let on about their awareness was posting a picture with Diablo and some caption on it.
It was disappointing. At that time we were eagerly digging up all those gems from Diablo's old days for the Diablo Evolution project, and felt that Blizzard didn't care anymore.

Well that's what they claim, but considering people have been reporting bugs that didn't seem to exist in the original game, or things that just behave differently (such as the aura from a same act 2 merc changing when you change difficulty mode, without hiring a new one), I'm starting to have doubts about it.
I absolutely adore D2R. I'm really hoping D1 gets the same treatment.
