When i start the hight resolution version it still has the same resolution as the classic even when i changed the settings, what am i doing wrong?

Nothing, it's a simple upscaling, depending on you GPU and monitor settings your computer might do the exact same for classic already.

If you want wide-screen support and adjustable game resolutions you can use devilutionX to achieve that instead.
