Was curious how many mods are out there, so far the ones i read about are ulmo stash, the hell 2, diablo torch, devilutionX, HD mod, think thats all i seen.. and none of em really say if they work on gog or hellfire

The things I currently really only want is some simple gameplay mods like: a stash.., faster town running, maybe faster dungeon movement?, to either know or turn off stuff that would permanently decrease character stats, guess widescreen support would be nice too

Other stuff that I wouldn't mind having after a playthrough of vanilla: more descriptions?, characters, hp/exp/damage rates being shown, more dungeons and quests/monsters

I really don't want anything quest/content wise to be excluded when playing, which is why i'd love the mods to work with hellfire.( didn't the normal diablo remove the butcher quest?) appreciate any help yall can give :>

Edit: and would the "patch" for hellfire work on gog version or is that still in development or whatever? (Hellfire v1.02.A5 - an Unofficial Update for Hellfire)

sounds like The Hell 2 mod is your choice

don't forget to adjust config settings in it: it has a lot of options

the hell 2 doesn't look like original diablo anymore and I'm saying that with a negative meaning. It's a clueless mix of graphics and assets from different games.

https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX is what you need. Full hellfire support is coming next version + it doesn't change the original gameplay while adding stuff like health bars/ highlighting items etc.
You will be able to convert characters between original diablo and hellfire freely.
It works on dozens of different platforms (including windows/linux/mac etc.) + installing is super simple - just drop diabdat.mpq and/or hellfire mpqs into the folder

Installing might be super simple but extracting those .mpq files from the gog installer was (at least a few months ago) too much of a hassle (for me).

I believe you confuse a few things. Hellfire is the add-on for Diablo (basically it's Diablo + extra content). Then there are modifications of either Diablo or of Hellfire (there are quite a lot, I have 63 different mods).
Another thing is plugins like Ulmo's stash or Diablo Torch which you should be able to combine with any mod. You could use it together with Hellfire 1.02.A5 for example, which is probably what you are looking for (stash + faster town running + no permanent damage to stats).
The only pure Diablo mod with faster running in town is actually Dr Zed's mod. :-)

Check out the author's latest remark on his mod: https://www.lurkerlounge.com/forums/thread-15760-post-216435.html#pid216435

Since you mention knowledge of stuff, I can also recommend Jarulf's Guide a.k.a. the Diablo bible: http://www.bigd-online.com/JG/JGFrame.html

This sounds like you should also have a look at Belzebub/Tchernobog or The Hell 2. Those mods are very different from vanilla Diablo, add a ton of stuff and also more descriptions.

didn't the normal diablo remove the butcher quest?
No. However, you only have a more or less random selection of quests in your game if you are playing single player. There is no guarantee you will have the Butcher quest in your particular game (66% probability actually).
what does "hellfire not fully supported" mean?
It means that devilutionX currenty does not include Hellfire, but will do in a couple of weeks or so (?), and I'm looking forward to that too.

DevilutionX Hellfire support is complete at this point and just undergoing some testing (all public) and polishing before it is released
