A considerable overhaul of the game. any opinions?

It's what I originally expected from Revision, and it's better than that in nearly every way. It does the game considerable justice while putting in improvements new and old players would vastly appreciate. Perfect for a replay. It even adds difficulty differences, so it may be even useful for your first playthrough. Provided you don't care about the game being pure.

Agreed, much better than Revision to the point I would normally not even think of comparing the two.
1. Doesn't change things that ruin the game.
2. While changing even more things drastically that actually enhance the game. For example it adds stealth and athletics skills that are just great. Also so many other features that increase the depth of the game.
Agreed too!

I played the game with GMDX 7.0, after having played more than the first half without mods, and kept comparing many things to old videos and let's plays afterwards. It is truly outstanding, and it feels like it stays true to the gameplay/feel/themes of the game, as if the original devs had the time and resources to push their ideas to their maximum. Having helped a bit with testing on moddb forums, I was also surprised that the author keeps track of all details, even those not directly related to strict gameplay (like taking note of a small change from his mod making a random dialogue line nonsensical). Everything makes sense, you've got even more possibilities (skills, movements, paths, AI...), all in interaction, like logical extensions of the vanilla game (also, in some places, the environment has been enhanced (especially on the Paris map, which felt rushed in vanilla), but again not in an intrusive way, and still in keeping with gameplay). It's the only mod that comes to mind that I would recommend for a 1st playthrough (obviously, for someone who doesn't care about the game in it's pure vanilla state, and even then, this a still a way better choice from this point of view than Revision).

I haven't tried 8.0 yet, waiting for the announced patch, but the changelog does seem to point to an all-around improvement on 7.0.
Can anyone give a more detailed explanation of their views on the differences between GMDX and Revision? I'll admit to a sour mark against Revision simply for making it Steam exclusive, but that says nothing about the mod itself.

Is GMDX (G) more thorough and detailed than Revision (R)? Is it that G is closer to vanilla than R? Is it that R makes the game feel too "different", and that's why some here don't like it? I've played the game many times and will re-install eventually, but it will probably be my last play, so if G just adds a little more polish while keeping the game mostly vanilla, than maybe R would be better?
I played GMDX 8.0 now for some hours and so far I'm having a blast. Imo this is the best mod you can actually get when it comes to playing the original single player story.

Here's some plans for v9.0, due out in December. A lot of it's visual, but there are also some relevant tweaks otherwise:

Does this mod fix the GOTY bug where the NYC music doesn't play for the third time? I'm about to start a playthrough with this myself so I guess I'll find out...
No mention of GMDX on GOG wiki? Strange, because it's the best DX mod by far.
Version 9.0 of GMDX just entered public beta, check it out at givemedeusex.com

Yes and it's awesome. I still think one should play the vanilla game first, but its' defiantly one of the best mods that I've ever seen.
