I recently re-downloaded the GOG version of Deus Ex to play on my Macbook Air. I already played it, about 6 months ago, on this computer without any problems, via a Wine wrapper. This time around though, I'm having a problem, which I'm hoping someone can help me with. When I start Deus Ex, it goes to the first time configuration screen, but things get stuck at this point: the configuration utility simply runs for a while and then simply stops responding, without detecting anything. As I said, this wasn't a problem last time I played, using the same GOG version of Deus Ex, and exactly the same Wine wrapper. I'm assuming some more recent Apple software update has changed something, but I have no idea what it could be. Anyone have an idea how to get around this? Is it possible to skip the first time configuration somehow, or force the game to choose the right graphics option without going through the configuration screen?

Try using Kentie's Launcher, see if that solves your problem.
Just guessing here, but perhaps rendering it in DX9 or something might work?
Try this guide: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-nameless-mod/tutorials/improving-deus-exs-graphics-with-mods
(I don't think the texture packs would help much, though.)

If not, I'd imagine your best course of action would be to find the proper settings for the "graphics_filename_xx" .ini file somewhere in /Deus Ex/settings/ and just put the file where it ought to be before you try to run it again. If it detects the proper settings file, you shouldn't get the initial startup screen because graphics options will already be set. Or so I think.
