I have a Logitech M500 mouse. It comes with two side buttons, and there is a logitech tool (setpoint[) that allows me to bind those buttons to whatever I want.

I still had Deus Ex on disc, and by rebinding the sidebuttons to pageup and pagedown I was able to assign them to functions like zoom or augmentations.

When Deus Ex went on sale I bought it because I was interested in the extras. Unfortunately, for whatever reason the GOG version will NOT register those buttons at all, no matter if I set them to pageup an F1-12 key, or any other button on the keyboard. Nor do the buttons register if I disable the logitech software.

Note: I check by trying to re-assign various functions to said buttons by pressing them, or by assigning the function (like "fire") to the button "P" and having said side buttons also assigned to "P".

So far nothing has worked. Please advise on how to properly be able to use those buttons.

First thing I would try is set your mouse side buttons to any characters on the keyboard using your SetPoint tool, then open up Notepad and press them to see if those characters are typed. If they aren't, the problem is either your mouse or the SetPoint software.

If it does work, then I'm not sure where the issue lies, but there are alternatives to using SetPoint. For instance, GlovePIE (but you'll need to learn some basic code) to take the input from the mouse side buttons and map them to some keyboard functions, then use those keys in your Deus Ex controls setup.
