Hi, I just downloaded Deus ex from gog and I can't figure out why I can't look around with the mouse pad on my laptop when moving - When I press the "w" key or any movement key, I can't look around at the same time, I have to stop moving, move the mousepad to where I want to look, then move again - Surely this shouldn't be? I never changed anything prior to playing/assigned hot keys.....it's driving me nuts! Any assistance would be much much appreciated, I've heard how good this game is and really want to play it properly!

Try updating your mouse pad drivers and shut down any tool connected to it (like support for mouse gestures etc.). If you have got one, I'd also try a standard mouse, just to see if the problem is general or just connected to the pad.

This does not make any sense to me.

To adress your question though, can you play other first person shooters with your control scheme? I'm thinking your problem is with how your laptop works or possibly the software it uses to emulate mouse input. Can you move the mouse cursor while holding down W or other keys outside the game? In other games?

Perhaps there is some third party software running to keep your keyboard and touchpad fully "functional" (special buttons, sensitivity settings etc) that overrides regular Windows settings. Knowing what laptop you are using and potential software used for the built in keyboard and touchpad might help troubleshooting this. If this software thinks that pressing keys while in the game means you are typing, perhaps this program hides ir disables the mouse cursor or even all mouse input while keys are pressed. Another useful thing to test: Run the game in windowed mode as opposed to full screen and see if it makes any difference.

If you are serious about playing games though, don't bother troubleshooting this and just get a mouse. ANY mouse is better than swiping fingers at a touchpad. Your game will improve and you will not wear down your finger tips.

Hey, thanks for the reply, the mouse pad itself works fine, I just can't look around when moving in any direction - I'm going to try a standard mouse tomorrow and see if that helps - Seems bizarre I can't use it when moving!

My laptop is a Fujitsu Lifebook, I just got in a week ago so this is the first game I have played with it, I'm going to check out your suggestions now and see if it helps, thanks for the reply, I'm going to get a mouse in the morning!
I had the same thing happen with a touchpad-freeze program when I had a laptop, except it froze my external mouse too. Drove me nuts until I remembered it.
