Had the original when it was fresh, never knew it existed. This is even better, the First Person mode brings a really nice dimension, it's also a bit less difficult and more about killing which I tend to like.

Is there any similar games about?
The obvious answer is the Commandos series, basically just Desperados but in World War II.

There's also a spiritual successor to the series called Helldorado, but I don't really know anything about it.
Helldorado is pretty much Desperados 2.5. Basically a mission pack (with a story, naturally), with some refined mechanics and interface here and there. I found it more enjoyable than D2 on the whole.
That's fantastic - thanks guys.

I've wish listed the Commandos games and will probably get them before this offer is out

Yeah, that's definitely your best bet if you've never played the series before. Same developer and everything, Desperados was technically a spinoff. So I'm glad I could help point out the connection for you!

Beside Commandos, there is another phenomenal game similar to Desperados: it's "Robin Hood - The Legend of Sherwood". Unfortunately, this game still hasn't found its way to GOG, so you'd probably have to pick it up from DotEmu. In any case, DO NOT miss this one, it's a real gem.
Going to give this thread a slight necro to point out Jagged Alliance: Back in Action. It's gameplay that's very similar to Commandos, but with a lot more customization and RPG elements.

A lot of people don't like it because it strayed too far away from the original games (which it did) but it's plenty fun on it's own and reminded me a lot of Commandos and Desperados the more I played. Maybe worth a look when it goes on sale sometime.
Commandos is very similar, but TBH i think Desperados is better.

in Commandos, prettymuch all the guns except the sniper rifle have a range of just a couple feet (im not kidding, the .45 pistol has a range of literally 6 feet)

the way gunfights worked in Desperados was much less stupid IMO
Helldorado - 3rd instalment in Desperados series. Great as Cooper's Revenge.

Commandos 1,2,3 - Great games, but in WW2 theme.

Commandos:Strike Force - More like stealth shooter, but still more or less like Desperados 2 and 3

Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood - like comm 1,2,3, desperados 1, but in the woods with Robin tale setting. Great Choice if you liked Desperados (setting is not as murky as Commandos).

Chickago 1930 - Kinda Commandos / Desperados / Robin Hood, but in the "Mafia in 1930" style.

Other more, but in turn based:

Jagged Alliance1,2, Back in Action - great turn based games. More or less like commandos, but in turn based and modern times fell (not WW2 as commandos).

Silent Storm Gold Edition (here in GOG) - Fantastic Turn Based game in 3d, in WW2 setting.

Hammer&Sickle - 2nd Silent Storm part. Great game, but with some flaws.

Thats all. I think. If i remember something i will update here for you.

Don´t forget "Star Trek: Away Team" which is another Commandos-inspired stealth action. I´ve never played this one (despite my passion for everything with Star Trek trademark :) ) so I can´t say if it is good or not but I really want to see this on GOG in the future.

You remembered that game. Thanx dude :)
Bit of a necro, but I'll toss out Fallout: Tactics as another game somewhat like Desperados.
