muttly13: Seems to be some continuity as well
Every time you enter a dungeon, you choose a new 1st level hero. Successfully completing dungeons allows your kingdom to progress, unlocking new options and opening up new dungeons. Dying in the dungeon just means you have to try again later, creating new 1st level characters until you can win the dungeon.
muttly13: I am not looking for a "puzzle" game but an thrilled to have an old "Indian Jones Desktop Adventures" type deal to spend a few minutes on here or there. Is that a fair assessment of this game plays out or am I barking up the wrong tree?
While I'm not familiar with Indiana Jones Desktop Adventures, at a cursory glance they look like very different games.
The reason people compare Desktop Dungeons to puzzle games is because each dungeon gives a limited amount of resources. There's only so much gold, XP, magic spells, potions, and health/mana regeneration available to you in each dungeon crawl. You have to find a way to win using what's available. However, the puzzle comparison isn't quite right since the dungeons are re-randomized every time you enter; you'll have different tools and different challenges every time, which is more like a standard rogue-like.
If you're still uncertain, I'd suggest looking up some youtube videos and watch the gameplay.
