Just bought both games and am using DXX Rebirth for Mac on my Mac Mini 2012. It looks and runs great but Im having a serious issue with the controller. I use an Xbox One controller connected via USB to my Mini and Im using the XOne open source driver for OSX. AFAIK it just makes the Xbone controller look like a 360 gamepad under OSX.

I can map the pitch up down/left right controls to my left thumbstick, slide up down left right on my right (though I have to invert Up and Down for that one), as well as map the other functions like fire and automap etc to the other buttons.

However I cannot use the throttle with the triggers. It'll detect one axis of the trigger, so I press right trigger to move forward. However in game as soon as I press a trigger to move the ship will move full speed by itself. If I regulate the trigger I can reverse.

Obviously this is a no go. I need to have right trigger to move forward and left trigger to move back and be able to regulate speed. I've spent well over an hour trying to figure this out but nothing is working. I have tried alternate mapping like have the right thumbstick control throttle but this is totally unplayable.

So is using the triggers not possible whatsoever to control throttle?

edit: This seems to work fine under Windows using the official driver and DXX Rebirth for Windows. Had no problems with trigger support for throttles. So either this is a driver issue under OSX or a port issue with DXXR. I will try installing another driver and see if that makes any difference and will post here.

Ok I tried another driver, Xbox One Controller Enabler. It was recognized in the app itself as I could see the buttons and axis being activated but it did nothing out side of it. Even games that support the Xbone controller like Bastion didn't recognize it.

So basically its a bust. Theres no way to use triggers in an acceptable way in Descent/Rebirth. I don't know if its a a driver issue or a port issue but its useless at this point, don't bother playing DXX Rebirth on OSX if you plan on using an xbox one/360 gamepad. If you need to you'll simply have to use Windows.
Hmmm...just to verify...the triggers work correctly under Windows?

I recall having an issue with Xbox triggers that sounded similar to your problem, but it was a limitation of SDL (what the game uses to recognize joysticks) and there wasn't anything the Rebirth team could do about it.
Yes, both triggers work as throttle under windows port of dxxrebirth, but under OS X only one trigger works and as soon as you press it the ship moves forward at full speed by itself.
