Hey guys,

Like many of you I spent way too much time here trying to find out how to get Descent 3 to run at 1920x1080 or hell anything other than the default resolution. I added the command arguments, no matter what the game would always go to the default resolution.

Well I found the fix, and it's irritatingly simple and I'm actually a little upset with GOG for not mentioning it anywhere.

If you run Descent 3 with the Glide renderer using the included NGlide you can force whatever resolution you want for the game through NGlide. Go to your game's folder and if you scroll through the folder you should see a program called "nglide_config" if you open that it lets you set through Nglide what resolution you want it to run at as well as some other stuff.

For me I found this to be the ONLY way to get Descent 3 to run at high resolution, PLUS it has the added benefit of forcing the auto-map and main menu to run at the same resolution. That's right, no annoying resolution change every time you want to check the map! Sure it's stretching the menus, makes them look more grainy and kinda screws up the appearance of the text but hell.. that's a tiny price to pay.

Note: The videos still play in their native resolution, so still expect resolution changes there.

Hope this helps!

The game has built-in widescreen support with the command lines. You have to change the aspect too, though it's not needed. Under the OpenGL or Direct3D renderer (so not using nGlide), just enter -width 1920 -height 1080 in the command lines. Add -aspect XX for extra customization, though TBH this method is not ideal and it's best to stick with stretched view.

A new mod for the game allows you to configure more options by adjusting things like the FOV too (which the game also has built-in support for, just no command line toggle to control it): https://github.com/InsanityBringer/InjectD3/releases/tag/v0.1-alpha

Well I tried it and using that caused my game to crash so.. I'm going to say my method works more reliably.
