Is it possible to configure Descent 1 to fit the screen rather than on my widescreen monitor it has black bars at the top and bottom and is letterboxed D: D: D:

Are you using DOSBox? Or a source port?

I worked out the solution to my own problem.
I changed the settings in the Descent folder Dosbox Descent.conf to my native screen res and ddraw. You have to tell Windows 7 to open the file in Notepad because it doesn't recognise the file type. Then it gave me grief with permissions. So after saving elsewhere, copy and pasting, renaming, displaying file extensions under Windows Explorer Alt tools and changing the file type back from .txt. to .conf it is now working full screen. Hooray!
