Never mind, I had to set compatibility to win 98/me, admin, and open GL and it worked, now to config these shitty controls!
Which game is this? This forum covers 3 different games, and Descent 3 is very different from the pair of Descent 1 and Descent 2.

It's it's windows it's most probably Descent 3. That game is in dire need of a sourceport. The OG devs said multiple times they intend to patch it to make it less of a hassle to run on modern systems but never got around to it because they still make commercial games and they would have to make the update on their free time.
Descent 2 had a Windows build, I think. I don't know if GOG actually uses it though, or if they just put people in DOSBox.

As far as I know, the original developers never released any of the source for Descent 3. If they had, I expect someone would've picked it up by now. The Rebirth project has kept Descent 1 / Descent 2 going. They might consider pulling in Descent 3, but someone would have to convince the original developers to publish the code.

Yep, you are correct, and yeah, they neglected this port, per usual for us Goggers...

Descent 3 is this way everywhere, the game was very much made for old windows OS and old hardware and while GOG can put some wrappers and stuff they can't account for all individual configurations unless the game is reprogrammed which is something only the OG developers can do.
Personally I find that running a clean machine with as less fluff as possible helps a lot.
Also when a game supports glide I've found that using Nglide helps a lot as today's openGL isn't quite the same openGL old games used and occasionally there may be issues. Also Nglide can force higher resolutions while maintaining the original aspect ratio, I've set up Rogue Squadron 3D with it and, IIRC, Descent 3 with it when I played the gog version.

I've never had any issues running D3 in any new machine I've built including the one I built last year.

I do think you need to make a shortcut on your desktop and tell it to run in XP compatibility mode.

Yeah, I went the 98/me route, may re-set it to XP ass well now that I know it works for some people...
