Hi there,

I've got the game running via Wine and all seems well, HOWEVER, the game does not detect the joystick. I can see Logitech Extreme 3D Pro under the 'Controls' tab in the Descent 3 launcher...I can even calibrate the darn thing. However, for some reason, the joystick does not work inside the game itself...

I'm using a Macbook Pro and I'm running the game through Wine. Please please please help!

Thanks,

Witvoorman
EDIT: I'm an idiot...this is D3...

Sorry...

Sorry...
Not sure what you mean?
I had written a post about using the rebirth source port them realized you're talking about D3 not D1 or D2. Are you using playonmac or wine by itself?
Not sure if this applies but when you created your pilot, did you choose the right setup for it in D3? I believe you can create pilots to use with different joysticks and if you picked the wrong one it may not work.
Gentlemen, thanks for your replies.

To clarify, i'm using Wine. Do you think playonmac would yield a better result?

As for selecting different joysticks per pilot; I have tried every combination possible, but my efforts remain fruitless.

I can confirm that the joystick works. In attempts to find a work-around, I installed Windows XP through Virtualbox and I can indeed run the game (with a working joystick) with moderate success. The main issues with Virtualbox are a) performance related and b) the game only works in a window as fullscreen causes all sorts interesting shapes on my screen.

So to summarise;

D3 on Mac using Wine - game runs, but I feel more Bill Gates than Maverick being restricted to use of my mouse.

D3 on Mac using Virtualbox - game runs, but I am transported back to my childhood where jealously towards my mate's faster computer was as prominent as the poster on my wall of much younger Cindy Crawford.

As I always, my gratitude towards any help remains endless.

I would recommend trying playonmac. It may not help, but you never know.

So you can calibrate it outside of Descent?

I can indeed...but no luck inside the actual game

Seems like an issue with WINE then. Are there settings you can change in WINE?
