Descent 3 won't work by double clicking on Descent3.exe for me, simply defaulting to an error mesage to be sent to Microsoft. The download was successfull, integrity scan was fine, and install listed as being successfull. I found that by double clicking eh file "lnchupdr.exe" I got an error message but then landed on a reduced launch screen which included the play option. This does get the game working. I copied all my downloaded missions from my disk based install into the missions subfolder and they also work from the new game option. Hope this might help some others who love this game but can't get this to work straight out as the down load. ANd by the way the descent 3 updates from descent3.com didn't help my problem either interestingly enough since the download is version 1.0 I believe of the game.

The latest version of D3 is 1.4. That is the last offical patch. There is a fan based 1.5 patch but not many use it.
Make sure to run gog games using either the startmenu or desktop shortcut as running them directly fromt he games folder sometimes bypasses some of the measures gog use to get them to run on modern systems.
the game updates from descent3.com didn't update the game for some reason. I still have to play with this some more. I initially tried 1.3 and then 1.4 and neither worked so I went back and tried installing 1.2 and that wouldn't work either.

GoG's release of Descent 3 is the 1.4 version. That's why the updates are failing, they are already in place.

Descent 3 uses a launcher to start the game. You'll probably need to use that instead of launching directly from the games .exe file.

pnptcn: YOu are correct. I checked it and you are quite correct. Thank you. I still can't get it to launch normally for some reason but at least I have a work around so it does function :-)

pnptcn: gog game launcher is what isn't working for me (along with the exe too). Thankfully the game contained a generic solution I can use but I wished I could get the full launch start up menu :-)

unfortunately both the desktop icon and start menu give me the same default message as double clicking the exe file. I did the double clicking once the desktop icon didn't work. All take me to a Microsoft error reporting message system and the game doesn't launch. Hence my work around I posted earlier but I would like to figure out what I am doing wrong or what is wrong with my system so that it's not working normally as it is for most. I may just have to be grateful I have it working though. Thanks for your input I appreciate your attempt at assistance :-)
