I saw at http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/download-misc/ and was curious if it's worthwhile to do this patch?

No, it's not needed. The GOG game content is already patched to 1.4a.

I would suggest using the Windows Installer though, since it gives a lot of add on options :)

only the original v1.0 data needs the 1.4a patch since v1.0 doesnt work all that well in Rebirth.

Yep. I had the original game on cd and needed the patches to be able to use Rebirth.
