I can only play up to level 7, which it then tells me that I beat the game even thought the game has nearly 30 levels.

Is this a DXX-rebirth problem? Or is the GoG version shareware? I can't find info on this anywhere.
No the GoG version is definitely the full version. If it was the demo version, you really don't think someone else would have discovered this out before now?

More than likely you didn't copy the content files correctly. You must have download the shareware content files from somewhere on your own or DXX-Rebirth is just including them by default now.

You need to install the GoG version of the game first. Then you need to copy the files Descent.pig and Descent.hog from the GoG install directory into the directory where you installed DXX-Rebirth.

Well that's not it. Because I did buy the GoG version and installed it. I used the unofficial DXX installer, but the .pig and .hog files are already there.
The .pig and .hog files are the main content packages for the game. The same files are used for the demo, but of course only contain the demo content. The files you see are for the demo. You need to copy the ones for the full version and overwrite the demo ones you have in the Rebirth directory. If you compare the file sizes, you should see the GoG ones are larger. It's all in the Rebirth readme...

Sounds like the unofficial installer you used came with the shareware files.

Also the fact that there's even an unofficial installer to begin with seems silly. Literally all there is to installing DXX-Rebirth is unzipping it to a directory and copying the above two content files from the GoG directory.

I thought that was the case. Thanks anyway.

Le sigh to you too.

Hmmm...hopefully this isn't a bug with the installer. Did you have the demo version already installed somewhere? Are you sure you selected to copy the data files from the GOG directory?

Well you'd think that, but you wouldn't believe how many people have had problems with copying over the files lol. Also, the installer these days has a lot of nice options like downloading Add-Ons, copying savegames and demos, and installing from the cds (which requires extracting a file with 7-zip since the .hog and .pig files in the main directory on the cd are blank files). /plugformypetproject ;)

I decided to quote you just to be sure you saw my reply, cause if this is a bug in the installer I really want to fix it :)
It was a bug, and is now fixed :)
