So I'm thinking of buying some classic Descent, which I haven't played since I was ten or something.

But what I'm really thinking is that I want to set up the game to be controlled with a modern joystick or gamepad, so I can comfortably make use of the total axis of movement that the game was so revolutionary for.

In my experience, however, most older games can't support modern controllers. I've tried playing games from ten years ago with a dual-stick controller, but the game won't let me assign more than two analog axis. When I go back even further the controls are even more stupid.

But every now and then I find a game that DOES give me total control so I can use a modern controller. AVP, for example, let me use four axis.
So my question here is, can I get this level of control with Descent 1 and 2? Can I connect a console-style controller, and freely use all four axis, the D-pad (POV hat,) and buttons?

If you use the source port DXX-Rebirth, yes :)

No. You should read <span class="bold">A_Future_Pilot</span>'s sticky.
