Please, I need to play this game again. I installed it but when I try to play it goes through the first two ads then exits with a little dialog box appearing, saying something like "cannot open default SST" or something. I do not know what this means.

Please assist.

Are you using DOSBox or a source port? If you're using DOSBox, I would really suggest getting the DXX-Rebirth sourceport here: http://www.gog.com/forum/descent_series/the_unofficial_dxx_rebirth_installer_released

You can download that installer and run it, and you shouldn't have any issues after that.

I'd also recommend getting The Definitive Collection here: http://www.gog.com/forum/descent_series/the_definitive_collection

Sorry I should have been more clear. I downloaded descent 3 plus mercenary. It downloads fine, eventually, but when I click play, it plays the first cut-scene and ad, but as it is about to load the menu screen, it shuts itself off and that dialog box appears, saying "couldn't open default SST."

Hmmm...sorry I can't help you. I don't know a whole lot about getting Descent 3 to work...have you tried contacting support?

I just downloaded the game and get the same error message. Any updates on a fix or cause?
