I noticed over at the Widescreen gaming website, that both Descent 1 & 2 are listed as capable of running in widescreen resolutions

D3 however, isn't listed among the games that support widescreen resolutions. Will D3 support any widescreen resolutions?

Look at my post on the same topic.
The short answer: sort of. It's pretty annoying, but it's definitely playable.

I did some digging and found this here at gog under the support listing for Descent 3 as well as on a few other websites.
----------------------------------------------------
"select Setup from the launcher window.
Now click the last tab ("Misc"). You must input the command line parameters in the "Optional D3 Command-line Switches" field. You need to know the vertical and horizontal resolution you want to use and its aspect ratio (width/height, if different than 1.33) and use the following parameters:
-width X -height Y -aspect X/Y""
----------------------------------------------------
This is what I'll have to do as my gaming PC is only hooked up to an older HDTV. In my case my settings will be "-width 1136 -Height 664 -aspect 1.71" as I have to run an overscan compensated 720p (1280x720)
Were you still encountering your problem in the post you linked after you entered the above command line options?
Hi,
I found this regarding Descent 3 and Widescreen.
Don't know if it's any help, but i figured it couldn't hurt :)
Good luck.
Yeah I tried that. Actually, it didn't make a lick of difference. What worked was going to options while in-game, choosing a resolution that worked, and then hitting TAB (strange, I know) to confirm the choice.
But it still didn't fix anything except for the actual in-game screen itself. For instance, changing control configurations is obnoxious when you can't see some of the screen.
Good luck, though, because from playing this years ago I know it's a great game!
I have "-width 1280 -height 800 -aspect 1.6" and it works. I tried a few things and it didn't work, but this is good. I know if there's an invalid value it kicks you back down to 800x600 (I think)
One thing that I have never been able to do is keep the graphics in 32-bit. I always have to hit F2 whenever the game starts.
I bought the game and used the command line switches I mentioned in my other post:
-width 1136 -height 664 -apsect 1.71
and it works. The only exceptions are the 32/16 bit color bug that Box OfSnoo mentioned and the draw rendering distance setting, which I've maxed, also doesn't seem to hold. Otherwise the game looks and plays very well. ;)
