Try the nGlide wrapper (located in Descent 3 folder as nglide_config.exe). It emulates the 3DFX Voodoo card in your video settings.

Failing that, try using this OpenGL patch: https://sectorgame.com/d3/downloads/?nav=display&file=864

With the following command lines: -launched -nosparkles -nomotionblur -z32bit -framecap 60 -directinput -deadzone0 0.0 -deadzone1 0.0 -nocompress

You can also set widescreen resolution from the command line, but with the nGlide wrapper that should do it automatically.
