I got another question regarding the installers in different languages. Are they really individual installers for each language? If they are, why aren't they named properly to let one know which installer is for which language? If it's a single installer that includes all languages, why do I have a drop down menu?

I download all the installers of languages that I understand, if the native language of the game is other than English. Trying to do so for the Deponia titles, I see that the first installer downloaded is overwritten by the second, etc. And I didn't even get a warning message from the GOG Downloader.

That's exactly what I mean though. It makes sense as a selector for titles with language dependent installers, but it's confusing for those titles that come with an all_languages installer, since it's not stated anywhere in our accounts. IMHO, it should be stated, if for no other reasons than to avoid questions like mine and prevent time and bandwidth invested to find out empirically. :-)

Unlikely, seeing as they just cut XP not long ago. Each system OS gets updates as long as the user base is high enough regardless of what is mentioned to the general public. Many companies would be pretty pissed off and public service establishments would be vulnerable as well.

But besides that, MS knows they went full retard with Win8. Like designing a car and putting the steering wheel in the trunk. >_>

Nobody wants to use a OS designed for touch tablets and phones on a friggin tower or laptop. It is counter intuitive in almost every aspect of design for such devices.

"Hey folks check out my 30" widescreen with every control used as touch based...*gags* wtf....."

Yeah, like they gave XP users the latest windows features right? DX 11? Nope.
Updated voice recognition and text to speech? Nope.
Latest Internet Browser? Nope.
The better network stack? Nope.
Support for 8GB of RAM? Nope.
Basic stuff like Color-Management? Nope.

Wait a second I start to see a pattern.

The first period of support is feature upgrade support. The second half, extended support, is about security updates. That is the one that recently run out for XP and that is the one that got extended for WinXP, which might not even that much related to popularity of XP, but more to Microsoft selling much longer the XP-Kernel for windows embedded systems, ATMs, etc. Those are even right now in their regular extended support phase.

Any chance of updated installers to replace the new patches?

My bandwidth is highly limited and I want to update, so I need to know whether or not to commit to the messy space-wasting files we have now or hold out for new files.

Win8 is still garbage. You added nothing to the conversation nor made any valid points with what you wrote. The only reason those things you mention seem to make sense to you is probably because you got stuck having to learn how to use Win8 for some reason and now the tortured victim is having a severe bout of Stockholm Syndrome lol.

Windows 7 still has most of the same upgrades. Between Microsoft still providing support and the ability to address over 3-4GB of ram are certainly good selling points if you value security or want to run any recent programs. If all you run are old games, you should be fine. More recent titles require newer DirectX runtimes or more memory than XP would ever be capable of handling unless it's XP 64-bit. This mostly applies only to Triple A titles though, so no pressure from most GOG games. I do agree that most of the list is irrelevant though.

Good thing Win7 support lasts until Jan 14, 2020 or there might be more unhappy Win8 users out there. :)

I'll admit there are nice things, like RAM. I meant the OS as a whole. It was pretty useful. RAM was only a problem for a handful of titles and didn't mean much. As you mention, Triple A titles. I think you can get away with everything up to Fallout 3 un modded and a little sluggish. I don't mean wildly fast either.

I got to run the first STALKER game just fine with 2gigs of RAM on medium settings with another machine. Ran like a turd...but it wasn't a great machine anyway with a low end vid card. MEH! lol XD
