I played all of Welcome to Deponia using the mouse wheel to access the inventory and was really happy with how intuitive that control was. The game was fantastic and hilarious with excellent, unique, and clever puzzles. So I installed Chaos on Deponia, but to access the inventory I'm forced to scroll up instead of down now. I just can't get used to this, no matter how much I try. I'm pulling my hair out and am afraid I'll just stop playing unless I can find out how to un-invert the control.

I checked my Intellipoint mouse settings, and there is no option to invert there. Is there a secret config setting for this? Is this normal, or a bug? Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm almost tempted to change a setting in my Windows registry to invert the scrolling, but that would be really annoying to keep changing back when I was done with a play session, since registry changes require a restart to take effect.
Try this app - http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm
Should be pretty simple to use. ;)

You do not need to restart after you edited the registry. Depending on what you changed a simple relog (log out - log in) might be enough.
It is for rebinding keys, might be enough for messing around with mouse options.
