I got the guy to go romance his bambina, but the gondolere keeps showing up.

I figure I have to get a junk crab and stash it in the box on the guys boat, so it bites him, when he starts singing... but how do I capture a junk crab in that dark ally?

It's late right now and I can't remember exactly how this puzzle goes off the top of my head so I'll give a hint with what I remember; you don't capture the crabs while actually in the dark alley. Think about how the alley area can be affected from other areas of the market.

Ah so pipe the music to them; I did that before.

Ok so I didn't have the right music.
Then after I got the crabs into the there, I had to get them to goto docs and nest in the box by releasing them with the valve again.

THEN had to go boot the gondoleers bumper so he got the box.
After that finally the line gets said after the gondolere is eaten! :-o
