I'm trying to play the game on a Windows 7 (64-bit) machine. I have successfully played it on this machine in the past (unfortunately, I can't remember the version I was using that worked). I updated to the current version (1.1.45) but the game now refuses to run. It appears to successfully load assets, cutscenes, and backgrounds. Then it displays the following:

"An Error Has Happened! Error #2014:
context: U.fetchPath(mod)
message: Error #2014
stack trace:
null"

I've searched here and elsewhere but was unable to find an existing solution (or even someone else with this problem). I've tried completely uninstalling the game, deleting all files and folders I could find (except saves), and then reinstalling, but I still see the same error. I'm running the game as administrator. The game is installed to a removable drive (but I understand that should work, and it worked before this).

Help?

We have to narrow this error further down. Using a clean installation (deleting the folder) was a good idea. I'd go further and make it as simple as it gets.
- Uninstall the game
- Don't keep old savegames or configuration files. They are stored in a folder named "DefendersQuest" somewhere in the "Users" folder, search for it (as Administrator) and make a backup, then delete it.
- Delete the game's folder
- Re-install and don't use the removable drive for now, but your system disk

Now you can start anew with a complete vanilla installation. Check if it runs.

Did you install a Mod before? Maybe there are references left in the game's configuration, so that it's still looking for it.

I uninstalled again, deleting everything I could find including saved games this time (made a backup though). I reinstalled to the C: drive and made everything as vanilla as I could. No joy. :-( I've never installed a mod, either.

Hmm, maybe an anti-virus software is blocking something. I'd go off-line and deactivate all security software to test this.

What might have happened her is you set a custom mod path directory that doesn't exist or has write-protection.

On my windows machine, the Defender's Quest save directory is:
C:\Users\larsiusprime\AppData\Roaming\DefendersQuest\Local Store

Try looking in the same place with your username instead of mine.

Find "path_config.xml" -- make a backup of this file, then delete it. Run the game again. Does it solve the problem? If so, you have an unreadable directory set for your mods. Either change it or delete the path_config.xml file.
I have exactly the same error Message, even during the installation i get an error "could not install "userdocs" (or something like that).
I think i already know why the problem occurs:
My "Document-Folder" is attached to an network drive (on windows 8.1 Pro) with offline files enabled.
I can't turn this off, because its essential vor my backups.

Du you have any hint?
