On my copy, after switching the options to full screen, I appear to be completely stuck on the first "My Name is Azra" screen, i.e. I after I select "Start" and "New Game", that's all I see, even after an uninstall and reinstall

Is there a some configuration I can delete to get the game back to just running windowed?

I'm assuming you're on a low-resolution laptop or something and the bottom of the screen is cut off?

GO here: C:\Users\larsiusprime\AppData\Roaming\DefendersQuest\Local Store
(assuming you're on windows)
Then: delete config.xml, restart the game. Voila! Windowed mode returns.

Also, "Tab" lets you jump to the next clickable button, even if it's off screen and "enter" clicks it. So you can use that to get at buttons that you know are there but are off-screen.

If you can get back into the options menu, you can manually set the screen offset in absolute pixels if for some reason the game at fullscreen is the right size, but shunted off to one side for some reason. If you have trouble accessing this from the in-game interface, you can modify the config.xml directly (I can show you how if necessary).

this helped immensely.

days of of battling the GOG downloader app (it won the battle by never working without corrupting my DQ file and letting me redownload in an endless loop (resumes would be corrupt so, it was from the beginning). the battle continues on a different game title. ) and the standard GOG install download hanging halfway for days, im glad this DQ install battle was only a 10 min ordeal.

i had the reverse issue. stuck in windowed mode but with "options" (apparently) and "next" hidden behind the start bar that wouldnt move out my way. (low res laptop with the res already maxed out)
got stuck again after the tutorial told me to "click here" to start the battle. i tried spacebar but it wasnt down for that.

tweaking the sizes lower had no discernible effect on the box size.

i had to jam the word "fullscreen" in the blank spot to get it to work.
but the exact location of the config was what i needed to get that last puzzle word into the config and begin a happier DQ experience.

thanks!

Sorry about all that! From now on I'll keep in mind I'll need a link to the options menu at the TOP of the window :P

^_^

that could work out.
i had no clue it was on that first page til the full screen mode revealed options and the goodies buttons.

(start bar hoggin all the screen real estate.
i thought it had a mode where it gets out of the way or something. im on a borrowed laptop and the language is muckin me up, i could get it where i could rearrange things by right clicking and guessing. win7 on the laptop and of course my main pc is not yet graced with win 7 nor 8 yet.)

but im killin it in DQ now.
must return and level up the rangers/archers.
quite entertaining.

Just wanted to confirm that deleting the config.xml worked for me. Actually I had this on main system - though that's on a 1920x1200 resolution, so the problem is the same as for a wide screen laptop (i.e. the buttons had indeed disappeared off the bottom of the screen and I didn't guess that there was a keyboard combo to reach the now invisible buttons.

Thanks again
