I just tried the online-demo, and this games seems perfect to be played during breaks at university, but I only have my 10" Ubuntu Netbook with me there. So, is it possible to get this running with Ubuntu (12.4, if it makes any difference)? As mentioned. it's only a small netbook, so anything using virtual machines probably uses too much performance.

(Also, has anyone tried this on a 10" display yet? I think it looks like it might be comfortable to play, but nothing is better then first hand experience...)
You just need adobe air (which is not Free). Also, this is a pixelart game, you don't need an awesome graphic card or screen resolution to be able to play it.

IMHO: you're fine as long as you can install adobe air on your system. (it *is* tricky, because unsupported by adobe.)
I know there is an Adobe Air packet for Ubuntu, but as far as I know it's been out of development since 6/11, so it might be a bit of a security breach there...also I'm not sure whether the game will work with such an old version.

I'm kinda hoping that the 'pre-packed' version which doesn't need a full air engine will support Linux, but I think it's still to early for that, huh?
We have linux builds available, as well as detailed instructions for installing on Linux, but currently GOG only hosts the Mac/Windows builds.

Send an email to support at leveluplabs@gmail.com and I can hook you up with a linux build.
Thanks for your answer :) Since my boyfriend wants to play the game as well, we needed to buy to copies anyway, so we grabbed one here and one directly on your homepage, so we can download the linux build too ^^
I've tried the demo of this game with Crossover 12. It runs just fine. It installed Adobe AIR and then the game. I had to add "DirectX Runtime Modern" to the bottle where the game was installed. It works, sound and everything. Without installing the runtime, you might not get sound.

Pictures or it did not happen, right? :) See the links below

Why would you run in crossover when Linux demo is on official defenders quest website ? :)

Anyway, you can still use GOG Mac version to get all the files to play natively. I just tried with defenders_quest_1.0.0.7.dmg -- it works fine.

Or even better just contact leveluplabs@gmail.com for linux build like larsiusprime said if you bought the game on GOG. The game is made for Linux, GOG just doesn't host linux installer...

WOW you guys are resourceful. I am impressed.

One caveat: the standalone demos are pretty old, so they include some bugs that have been long-since fixed. I haven't gotten around to updating them since most of the bugfixes apply to post-demo content, and also I am lazy. :)

Given that the blog post solution gives you access to the public update server, however, it's probably irrelevant.

I'll ask the GOG team if I can include a link to download the linux build in future GOG patches, that might be the best solution, and then nobody has to send me an email to get their stuff :)
