Hi all,
did anybody ever encounter an error like

#: ./start.sh
Running Defender's Quest
./start.sh: Zeile 20: ./DefendersQuest: Kann die Binärdatei nicht ausführen: Fehler im Format der Programmdatei

(german system; says sth like "cannot execute binary; wrong format of binary")

and aborting (I don't get/see any other messages)? It's just a fresh, clean new install (32bit system).

Any hint welcome! Thanks in advance.

That's the problem. DQ is 64-bit executable. It won't run on a 32-bit system.

An aside, but is the CPU not 64-bit?

Thank you very much for your answer; you're right, of course. Unluckily I didn't see your post in time (and btw wasn't notified by the forum-software - I thought it would (in case of an answer)...). I'm surprised though; I've only heard of 64bit-people complaining that most games' binaries were 32bit only. And now I learn that a 2012-game is 64bit only?

No, the CPU isn't 64bit... otherwise I'd install a 64bit-OS, right? ;-) I tried Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS, but now I'm trying Bodhi (32bit Legacy-Version) but with the same poor result.

But: How could I have seen that DQ is only 64bit?? (other than by 'file ~/GOG\ Games/Defenders\ Quest/game/DefendersQuest'; the result is: "ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64" - so it's even clear to me).

And - again btw - why doesn't the installer tells me that sth is going wrong? The installation by itself was finishing without any error or hint.

But thanks... and: good bye 32bit!
I bought the game a few days ago.
I can play the MS-Windows version
on my 32 bit Linux system using Wine.
