I've opened up the hermit, and see that some items cost 7+ skulls to purchase; yet, no matter how many times I get a perfect score on a board that should give me 3 skulls, I'm only seeing 6 in my inventory when I go back to the hermit. I haven't upgraded the game, nor messed with any save files.

Is this a bug, or is it an unstated limit that increases later?

There shouldn't be a limit and I never encountered that bug. Did you do different battles or repeated the same ones. You will only get skulls the first time you reach a perfect score in each battle.

Ah, maybe that's it. I did notice that sometimes I would get 6 for a battle that said 7, but it's been a while since I've played (and I've beaten twice since the OP). Thanks!
