I just moments ago purchased Defcon via the 5 for $10 promotion here on GoG. I proceeded to download and install the OS X version of the game, but upon running the application, I was greeted with a 'Key Invalid' error. A screenshot of this can be seen here.

It looks like whatever the key was supposed to be, it was corrupted somehow. I have tried redownloading and reinstalling.

I also tried inputing the key listed on my user page - But this only gives me an "Authentication Status: Unknown" error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey I found this on Introversion's troublehosting website :

"If you are receiving a "Key Unknown" error than you have a problem with your NETWORKING - your key is fine, but DEFCON cannot contact our server to verify your status."

It still won't let you play the unlocked game until the servers verify it

I am having the same problem.

When I try to play the game, it says that my key is invalid and asks me to buy the game...

Is there a solution about this?

Nevermind... I had to replace the game key in the game with the one on the game details page...

Yeah, this works. But it's pretty ridiculous you even have to do this.

Specifically:
-Click on Defcon on your games library page
-Scroll to the bottom and find the "My Serial Number" section. Select it and copy it.
-Find where the game is installed on your system. For me, this is in C:\GOG Games\Defcon
-In that directory is a file named authkey. Open this with notepad, copy the key into it, and save it

Everything should run fine now.

I am using the key from my GOG account and it still says Key unknown !!!
This is supposed to be DRM free ! I don't want multiplayer just single player !!

I understand this is needed if you want multiplayer.
My question is I guess, will it keep playing in SP mode without me having to go online. If this is the case, then it is not an issue but if it reverts to demo mode then this is a serious problem.

you can play the 'demo mode' which is apparently single player (WTF). This means only 2 players, regardless if you want to go against AI or not. Absolute crap DRM shouldn't be here in the first place.
