carnival73: Ah well, sadly - After some time wasted I've found no way to turn off the games game pad auto-detection and so no mater what kind of mapping I apply the game insists on forcing the default setup on me.
You might try JoyToKey, which turns any controller into a 'keyboard joystick'. Highly recommended for these kind of games
