So, after a few seconds of starting the game, whether I go into the options menu, start the game, or even just allow the title screen to idle, the game either A. crashes outright or B. freezes while playing the song from the title screen. Tried the GOG Galaxy Verify/Repair feature and an uninstall/ reinstall. Also tried running as administrator and closing all Chrome tabs, if that's relevant. Any ideas? If additional information is necessary I'll try to provide, first time actually asking for game help on a forum tbh.

Did you ever solve this issue? I have the same problem. About 2 seconds after it starts up, the mouse freezes and the background animation stops. Sometimes it doesn't get that far, and just crashes or fails to display anything.
Same problem here, the game freezes nearly all the time while clicking through menus or on "start". Very rarely it manages to actually load, but it is unplayable in this state.

I am running Linux (Ubuntu 17.10)

Can you try it again and tell me if you still have the same problem? I just did a test and it worked. I suspect there was an OS update on Windows 7 that somehow resolved this problem. Maybe there was a similar update for Linux?

I got a refund on my copy of, but Death Road to Canada is discounted again in a daily deal:

https://www.gog.com/game/death_road_to_canada

I had a forgoten backup of it that was still there when I checked today, and I'm sure it hasn't been updated. That means whatever changed to fix this problem, it probably wasn't a change in the game itself. If the issue is solved in an OS update, I might have to grab it again. If not in the current Daily Deal, then in a future sale (I'm holding out for the Summer sale).

Another possibility could be somehow related to the directory tree the backup was in. Maybe the game didn't like the path it had in the GOG Galaxy installation of it.

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 and now the game works! Haven't played for long but I haven't encountered freezes so far...

OK then, I think it's safe to say it was probably some kind of OS issue that was the cause of the bug. I'm glad it's fixed now, apparently. Thanks for your input!
I just bought the game on sale and I am having this issue running on Windows 10.

EDIT: Running it using the actual .EXE file instead of through GOG galaxy in windows 7 compatibility mode seems to work.
