I was wondering if there was a way to enable a fullscreen display of this game. I can't see any settings files or other means to do so (alt-enter doesn't help), but maybe someone else knows a way. This won't stop me from playing, mind, but I don't care for immersive games like this to be windowed, even if it just throws a black field behind the game's original resolution.

Are you using a widescreen monitor? Widescreen monitor resolutions weren't available back in 1996

In the original Deadlock Planetary Conquest (the first one) it was written for Windows 95 and had a built in menuing system much like Windows 3.0 & 3.1 The 'title bar' is part of the game interface. The original Deadlock CD could be run on Windows 3.1 if you loaded in the provided Win32s libraries.

You can click the 'maximize' square in the upper right corner (not the dash or the x but the square in the middle) but the menu bar will still display. All Win 3.0 and 3.1 compatible apps have required menu bars built in.

Hoping this helps somewhat.

Oops, forgot, Deadlock II Shrine Wars was Windows95 and above which Windows95 didn't require menu bars.

Is the game in a window or fullscreen with a black border? If the later, can the game be ran in a window?
Dl2 works in fullscreen. As for the black borders, you can set that in the settings for the graphics card under scaling, it will override any game's settings.

Ah, yes, you're quite right about Win95 games - a lot of them were designed that way. Its been so long since I've seen it that I'd forgotten that little artifact. Thanks for the reminder about that - answers my question. In fact, IIRC, I likely played the Apple version of this, which throws everything into a cocked hat :)). As I say, not a game breaker and I can throw a dark image behind the game window which will do much the same thing.

I played the Mac version too years ago.

FWIW, the way the GoG version looks on my 1920x1200 monitor is very acceptable IMO. It runs in a window, but it's a big enough window that I don't even notice it once I start playing. I tried setting it to full screen, but that made the game run one the left side of the screen with a big black border on the right side.
Can deadlock 2 be run in a window?

No, I don't believe Alt+Enter to window something was much of a thing back then also, with low resources to run things with, it would've lagged the game down.
What happens if you change your desktop resolution to match the game's resolution? You might try that as a test, and if you like it...

...you might be able to use RESCHANGE.EXE to automatically change the desktop rez to match your game, auto-launch the game, and then auto-change your rez back to normal when the game exits. I use this ever day to play Microprose's Magic the Gathering in its preferred 1024x768 rez. I don't recall where I got reschange but it works great with Windows XP. Not sure if it'll work with other versions or not, though, although there must be similar utilities out there.

For example, here's a .BAT file I created to run Magic...

reschange.exe -width=1024 -height=768 -depth=32 d:\games\magic\magic.exe

Magic is an old Win95 game, so it might work with Deadlock2.
