plancsar: One way of fixing this is to remove/rename WAIL32.DLL in the game folder.
Thanks for your advice but now only the intro music starts, alas in a game, I no longer have any sound at all, the same for the music.

I tried Seven compatibility, but it doesn't change anything, I'm under Windows 10 in 64 bits, but the thing to do with "headphone" I didn't understand if someone could explain me precisely, thank you in advance.

I'm sick of this bug with the sound, it's really hellish. ><

So for my system this is what I had to do to get sound working for me

Windows 10 64-bit version 1809
Running on a laptop with Realtek HD Audio drivers

1) Disable game recording.

2) Disable game mode

3) Change my audio format to 44100 Hz. 16 bit or 24 bit both worked.

4) Disable dolby audio.

In the same window I set my audio format I had a dolby audio tab. In that tab was a single disable button. So if you have any "Audio Enhancements" or programs that adjust your audio then they should be disabled for this program.

If I have none of these set then I have very bad sound. If I do even 3 of the 4 I have intermitent bad sound. It required all 4 for me to get proper sound again.

Steps that did nothing for me but you might want to do as well

- Running in compatibility mode
- Running as an administrator

Thanks for your help, but even after following all the steps I still have the bug.

Thanks anyway

aramazon: Is anyone else experiencing sound stuttering problems with their deadlock 1 game? All the sound has a crackling noise with it.
Not me.

Malebarius: I found the .exe file, opened the properties, set compatibility to Windows 7 and the sound issue was fixed.
This fixed my issue. Windows 10 64-bit (build 1903). I have an NVIDIA HD Audio (not realtek).

What you're looking for is the "deadlock.exe"... right-click this and select properties, then find the "compatibility" tab... there enable compatibility for "Windows 7".

Thanks all!

P.S. I am NOT running as administrator in this solution.

Have the same problem, starting as admin and turn of full screen enhancements while also using the 640 x 480 settings ( because of integer scaling i'm using ) led to no more music stuttering the main menu but it remains stuttered with reports and such.... planning on going creative sooner or later so that might change a thing... i'm also tempted to put in this old aus sonar card to see if what will happen then... not very happy with the prospect of using that ddr3 relic inside my brand new machine ;)
