Hi,

I'm enjoying Darkstone and have just completed level 20. My main character, Poppalina :), has 90 magic points and therefore the use of spells is vital for progression.

However, with the exception of Reflection, all my spells are still at level 1 and therefore the only effective spell is Magic Bomb. I've read every book I've come across but the next tier of spell books require 105 magic. Am I missing something blatantly obvious or do opportunities to level up spells come after level 20?

Thanks.

Just keep upping those magic points and buy the magic books that you can use.

When you right click the spell book, it will raise your spell level if you have the required spell points.

Some spells need less than 105 for level 2 (and some need more -- you need 155 just to learn invocation). Magic missile only needs 55. Healing needs 30. At your spell points, you could be at reflection level 4.

Make sure you check at the shop regularly for spell books to purchase. Plan your purchases to make sure you're getting spells you'll use, too. They're expensive, so you want to make sure you have money when the right spell becomes available.
Thanks Talima.

I feared that was the case. It only clicked later on that I missed earlier options to buy the spell books and they're now not available. Therefore, I just have level 1 spells and Magic Missile, Spark etc are next to useless.

The books will keep rotating in and out. And you'll see a whole bunch in the game -- but sometimes very few will pop up on a playthrough.

It's been a while, but I think you can do this: Export your characters, start a new game, pick up some spells in town, upgrade your character, do that a few times, and then import back into your game. It'll take 10 minutes to get your character some useful spells.

I may be wrong on that, though, so keep a back-up save handy.

I've managed to export my characters and start a new game but I don't think it's possible to import them back to the existing game. Thanks again.

I installed it and looked around. I couldn't find it either.

You may want to start the game over at the next difficulty level w/ the same characters and take another stab at it. Many of the quests will be different, so it won't feel too repetitive.

I took a look around the save file and I didn't see any telltale signs of how to change it in the save file, either.

Sorry for your luck.

So, at this point, I'd restart multiple games and keep buying books to get your spells strong. And then I'd start a level 20 game all over and go from there.

You'll get nicer equipment and see things you wouldn't see the first playthrough anyway. So it might actually be more fun that way!
