I've only recently started playing this game and I wanted to try take an escort mission this morning but I get the following message:

"You have an active contract. finish that first."

I'm guessing that at some point, near the beginning of the game, I must have started, and then not finished, an escort mission. I don't see anything on the map nor can I find any mention of this mission anywhere :(

How can I find this unfinished mission and finish it?

Its been a while since I played this game and I didn't play it for very long(didn't particlarly like it) but if you go to a space station can't you see your active missions? I think you could also cancel the ones you don't want from there as well? At least the side missions.

Perhaps "escort mission" was a bad choice of words on my part, I meant an escort "task" (?). If you go into "Terminal" on any Trade Station you have 3 areas within "Terminal", they are:
* assignments and missions
* news and rumours
* escort offers

It's under "escort offers" that I'm not allowed to take anything. I must have started one up early in the game perhaps.

Ralackk: Unfortunately it doesn't show active escort offers that I've accepted anywhere that I can find. That's my problem.

JDraco: I have travelled many sectors away from where I first noticed this problem and I still have it. I've noticed that travelling to a different sector aborts side missions, but this isn't that it's an escort offer that I accepted (somewhere).

Ahh in that case, sorry but I haven't got a clue. It kind of sounds like a bug to me but maybe its just poor game design.

No, there's nothing listed under "Assignments" except a side-mission when I take one.
