Hi,
this has happened before with Giants Citizen Kabuto but there I was able to resolve it.

I just bought Dark Star One. I played Dark Star One when it came out using almost the same computer. Only the OS and GFX card were different (win xp).

I already searched for solutions but most are related to the copy protection. I tried running it in WinXP compability mode but this did not change anything.

What is the problem:
When I try to start Darkstar One I get an error message that the program has to be first run with administrator rights in order to work. When I run it with Adminstrator rights nothing happens. No error message. No loading screen. Just nothing.

How can I resolve this?

THX!

PS: I would really appreciate if with other older games that might have problems running modern OS either A: a howto is included on how to make things work B: a warning is placed that the game might not run in modern OS.

Have you already tried disabling Data Execution Prevention for the Darkstar One Game-Exe?

Exactly how does it not work? I never got this game to work and I also have Win7/64. In my case, it seemed like it was working but the Dark Star I simply would not move and keyboard/mouse did not work for the most part.

EDIT: BTW, tech support on this game from GOG is not very knowledgeable. Hopefully someone in these forums can help you.

Hi,
sorry for the late reply.
I did an Hardware upgrade lately (the GFX is the same).
I did a fresh install of the OS.
Now it is working fine.

I never had the mouse or keyboard problem. The game just crashed. I didn't see a menu a all.
And I tried it with disabling the Data excution thing.

Only problem remaining that ingame the DS explodes everytime after getting back to orbit in the planetary mission (karbons hideout).
