It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

hurleybird: This is pretty BS. Stuff like this should be fixed before being allowed to be on GOG. At least it's better than the shovelware on steam that sometimes *never* works under any circumstances.

If the game did not work at all and/or this was a bug that was not present in the original game, I might agree with you, but since the game works great and this is a bug present in all versions of the game, I don't. The fact is, this is a PC game and as such, some bugs are always to be expected since developers cannot possibly anticipate every hardware/software config that might be encountered with their game. Bugs are just a simple fact of PC gaming and if you don't like it, then you should stick to console games only.
What Steam has been doing is pretty BS though. If a game doesn't even work, never mind the bugs, they shouldn't even try to sell it.
Further to the above, I can confirm that both 1600 x 1200 and 1600 x 900 modes work fine for me without any fiddling. It appears there was a fix for this resolution bug but it is recent and the only link I have found was to Ascaron's own website, which, like the company itself, is now defunct. I gather that Kalypso picked up most of their IP... perhaps GOG could contact them about it? It'd be nice to have it sorted as it's very probably a simple bug to do with a numerical error.

i'm pretty sure crashing on a very common resolution automatically disqualifies any game from the "works great" status. and it's not about developers foreseeing every possible problem (even though one would expect them to test the game on all common resolutions at the very least), it's about fixing bugs that are already there.

Seriously? You're going to resurrect a two year old thread over this? Talk about late to the party, but, I guess I'll play.

Not being able to run at a particular resolution is not a factor in judging a game's performance otherwise. There are plenty of games here on GOG that won't run at anything higher than 640X480, despite the fact that there are many "very common resolutions" besides that. Does that mean they also don't "work great"? Not to mention, 1680X1050 was not as common a resolution as you would think at the time of the game's release. Back in 2006, less than a third of all monitors in home use were wide screen and most of them were resolutions lower than 1680X1050. Also, the developer of this game went out of business over two years ago and they had long since stopped supporting this game well before that (couldn't afford to anymore). Expecting them to have patched this game just for release on GOG when the retail game was never patched for this bug is frankly, stupid. No developer who can barely afford to pay its employees is going to dedicate any resources to patching an old game. So in the end, it doesn't really matter how much anyone complains or argues about it, this bug is never going to change. It is yet another of those little quirks nearly all PC games have. Get used to it and get over it.

EDIT - of course this whole argument is moot, since the bug is apparently not actually in the game but in a DLL provided by Microsoft. Ascaron was not responsible for fixing it in the slightest.
