I used this to get going as I read the difficulty could be wonky (maybe I'm wrong?) and for the upcoming FLAK mission.

I noticed that you start with 1 million (or a billion?) credits and that is way too much, I don't want that.

Does anyone know an easy way so I can either spend most of it so I actually lose it (can you buy stuff then destroy them over and over without affecting stock?) or edit some file? I've done a few missions already so I'll likely have 10-20k credits which I want to keep.

I'm currently playing difficulty 2 with MesaMod.

You could try Cheat Engine.
Start it when you run the game, select the DarkstarOne.exe and scan for the exact value of your credits.
Thene do somesthing to change them (like buying somesthing) and search for the new number.
Continue until only one adress remains, then you can change it's value to the number you desire.
