I bought Darkstar One for my 360 the other day from Gamestop. It didn't come with a manual so I found one on the net for the PC but it's B/W.

I really like this game but there's so much I don't know about it.

First, it's kind of hard to get used to the controls.

Question, what are the icons in the HUD on the right side of the screen mean? They are very small. Remember, I have the 360 not the PC version.

What upgrades should I do first?
I have been reading about some FLAK 2 mission that is supposed to be almost impossible, is it? WHAT is it and why so hard?
What should I do first?
All I have done so far is the three tutorials and then tried a side mission where I have to capture a container. Failed first time because I didn't know what I was supposed to DO with it. Passed the second time after I docked at the station with it.
That;s another thing. It's VERY difficult to dock. Have to get used to these controls.
Thanks,

I'm only about half-way through the game, so I can't comment on the FLAK 2 missions yet, but I'm enjoying it very much.

The manual can probably answer most of your questions, but here are a few tips I believe might be some of the most important.

The controls will get more comfortable with time, but I usually only use these (so far, anyway):

W = Afterburner (increase speed boost for a limited amount of time which is shown in the curved bar in the middle-right side of the HUD)
S = Reverse thrust (slow down or move backwards)
A = Strafe left
D = Strafe right
Mousewheel Up/Down = Increase/Decrease speed (speed is shown in the middle-bottom-left of the HUD)

F = "Use" something (any actions available will appear onscreen with their corresponding number)
T = Hold to show all available targets, and select one with the mouse
R = Select next enemy
K = Communicate with target (this is how you request permission to land at a space station)
H = Hyperjump (with a warp gate selected, this will automatically "jump" you into the gate)
V = Time Acceleration (VERY HANDY when the distance to your target is very far away! Press and hold to get there much more quickly)
G = Pick up a selected container
B = Drop a picked up container (which you will need to do if you get into a fight while carrying something)
1-3 = Missile selection
4-9 = Plasma Cannon selection

The icons on the right side of the HUD, as well as all other buttons of the HUD can only be clicked while holding down the spacebar. One that stumped me and made me search for an answer was the "scan" button, which is in the bottom-left corner of the HUD (looks like an arrow). There will be missions for which you need to "scan" selected targets.

As to "what should I do first?", you can select the "Terminal" while docked at a space station to select missions which will pay you money which you can then use to buy better weapons/upgrades. I would recommend doing this until you have the best equipment you can buy. Then, start following the main story/plot.

Alternatively, you can try trading goods between stations, but I have not done any trading, and so can't provide any info on that.

About docking, one of the first upgrades you should look for is a docking upgrade (sorry, can't remember the exact name). Once you have this (and equip it by clicking on the "seatbelt" looking icon), when you get within 2 units of a space station, press "Use" (F), then select the auto-docking option. This will let the autopilot dock the ship for you.

Once you're comfortable with the controls, you can get a fairly efficient SOP (standard operating procedure) for getting money and the best upgrades. This is more or less what I do"

1. While docked at a space station, select a mission from the "Terminal" (I prefer Bounty Hunting).
2. Use the Navigation chart ("globe" icon at the top middle) to select the system for your mission.
3. "Leave" the space station.
4. In space, press "T" to select the Warp Gate as your target.
5. Press "H" to Hyperjump into the warp gate.
6. Once in the new system, usually the target of your mission will appear on the left side of the HUD. Press and hold the spacebar so that you can then click on the target.
7. Move to your target and destroy/collect/do-whatever to it to complete your mission.
8. Press "T" to select the current system's space station.
9. When you get within 2 units of the space station, press "K" to ask for permission to land. Then press "F", then the number corresponding to the auto-dock option.
10. Upgrade as desired.
11. Repeat all.

I hope that helps! Good luck!
Um, thanks for your help, I mean a lot but I did mention I was playing on a 360. The screens are very different between them.

Buy, ya, it's an awesome game. Just getting used to it and trying to do research on what some things mean.

Thanks for you help. I appreciate it.
Ugh! Yeah, I somehow overlooked that you've got the 360 version. Sorry about that. But, hopefully you can use some of the info if you can find the actual button-mappings for the 360 controller. In my PC manual, the key-mappings are shown in the very last few pages.
