All the screenshots I take in DarkStar One end up as entirely black jpegs. I'm running the game at 1600x1200 with most graphic options maxed out except 2x AA instead of 4x. It's really bizarre. Any ideas?

Hi,
I think that's an actual problem with the game. The pics get dumped as black screens.
You can always get FRAPS. The free version has some limitations but it's still awesome for screenshots and short gameplay vids.

This is an issue with the game yes, the best thing to do is simply press Print Screen and then paste it into MS Paint. You can Alt+Tab out of Darkstar One without any issues.

Or even better, you could...get FRAPS :)
You assign a hotkey for taking pictures and that's it. You can take 100 pictures without having to ALT TAB at all.

Thanks, FRAPS works great. Sucks that the built-in screenshot feature doesn't work.
