i need some help with this.
i have tried playing the game on my laptop with an Xbox controller.
in the tutorial stage where it shows you all the keys that do interesting stuff.
i get black rectangles instead.

e.g, to summon and banish despair press --- + ---. or press --- to pick item or hold --- to equip item.

i have tried the options menu and i get the same issue there as well.

this might be relevant, the keyboard controls are drawn fine and if it comes down to it i could play it that way.

really looking for an excuse to use the controller though.

if anyone had to deal with this or knows how to fix it, any help would be appreciated.

Graphics Adapter: Intel HD Graphics 4000, NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M
Display: 15.6 inch display

I've searched for a solution, even on steam forums, but no luck.

It's marked as solved because it is duplicate to much older forum threads and it doesn't bring any value to continue discussion here. Sometimes it helps to actually read the post marked as solution, it may be only partial solution, kludgy workaround, or it may be post saying there is no solution at all.

Read "solved" as "I'm done with this thread, you are probably right".

Why are they even selling this game if I can't even see what buttons to press?

Hi Poetricks, I've sent a complaint to GOG support, and they replied with the following message.

" Developers are aware of missing icons bug, and they are working on solving this. In the meanwhile you could try to restore default setting by deleting config file. According to some of our users this solves the missing icons issue.

Config file is called "options.dopt" and it is located in:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local
Or
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Darksiders2

Delete this file and run the game.

If this does not work, please contact official support, since they know more about this issue:

The suggested method did not work for me, but it won't hurt to try.

Thanks, it looks I was wrong then, continuing the discussion here DOES bring something positive! I've done my share of messing with the settings and nothing seemed to help. I'm not sure if I tried completely deleting them. I may try it when I get a chance.

Same problem here... I contacted Gog support and got the same answer. I tried deleting the file but nothing changed.

Looks like we'll have to try to directly contact Nordic Support about this issue...

UPDATE: I sent an e-mail to Nordic games via the link suggested by the GOG support team. In case they reply I will post the answer here.

I got the same bullshit smoke up my ass from them too. I would be very surprised to see any work done on this at all.

SOLVED? What i don`t see it. Give us patch for it. Steam already have.
