Has anyone played this with a single character? I've been messing around with this for the last couple of days, and the best success I've had so far is a 30 year old Knight. This gives a good selection of skills, enough equipment and combat skill to survive the initial thug beating, but still young enough to wander Germany for a few years without getting old.

It seems that other professions besides Noble Heir and Knight or maybe Manorial Lord don't really give a good, rounded selection of skills; either they're too focused on intellectual skills and can't survive combat, or they're useless for anything except beating up baddies.
Traveling merchant is a decent one. Path is peddler, local trader, traveling merchant
make sure speak common is 20 to get last option. Weapons skill may be low but you start with chainmail so are able to quickly build it up For a 4 person party this is the best leader.

You do not loose stats nearly as fast in game than out. I suggest a 40 year old rural commoner.
Path is oblate, oblate, priest, abbot, knight. This start with 2 saints 2 potions and well rounded skills. A female cannot take this path as priest requires being male, and the alternate path takes too long.

There are encounters that are not scaled down to single character, and there are many encounters that require saving a character. I am not sure how the latter is handled whne you only have one. You could use schultz and Hans to assist, but you would have to have carefull timing to make sure they do not leave with your equipment.

Ther are otehr challenges that are fun to do if your patient enough to try it solo.

The two party.

And the 20 year old challenge.

For the 20 year old challenge you have to pretty much earn everything in the game, monks won't talk to you, you heal slowly, you can't find an alchemist. You really have to get your reputation and fame up asap. This can be done with rural commoners with any combination of recruit. bandit, thief, and ranger. You could choose wealthy urban family and start out wth traveling merchant wich will give you chainmail and more rounded non combat skills. But the trade for leather to chainmail comes at the cost of less attributes.

I am currently researching a more in depth infamy information of the game and wanting to start out as a group of bandits :D It is hard to find however, it seems no one has tried it beyond a couple of gaurd skirmishes.
