Has anyone found a way to use the old bonus material that came on a floppy disk with purchase of the Darklands clue book?

The disk came with a saved game character editor, art gallery and a jukebox that was different from the soundtrack from the one Gog provides. It added a lot to the game.

While the bonus disk currently isn't a part of the GOG-download, it is hosted at . Look under the [url=http://www.darklands.net/files/files.shtml]files section or use this direct link to get it. You need to set it up in Dosbox to get it to work properly, so let me know if that's a problem, okay?

Thanks Zerotown! Your reply was helpful. After playing with the configuration, I was able to get it all to work in a Dosbox window.

This is great to know! My wife and I have always loved this game. We got it way back when it was new. We enjoyed many fun hours playing together as a team. We would each "run" one or two of the characters.

Would either of you fine gentlemen mind describing how to get these to work in the Dosbox thing? We would appreciate it very much.

Hi BlackHolestar. Glad to hear you are also a fan of the game from years back.

I have Darklands on a CD that I bought from "the Ultimate Darklands" years back. I don't have a floppy drive and didn't want to purchase an external USB but was considering the option since I still have the floppy disk from the guidebook (though I'm not sure it would still work).

I purchased the game on Gog but was surprised to see the bonus content missing, especially since a pdf of the bonus guide was included. With Zerotown's links, I was able to install the bonus content into my Darklands installation in Dosbox.

Due to some crashes I experienced, I changed a couple of Dosbox settings in the config file and it's working better now. I changed to video to scaler=hq2x and changed memory to XMS=false to avoid crashes in combat mode.

I'm still happy to have a digital copy of DL since you never know when physical media can fail.

Let me know if I can be of further help. Sorry I have no solution for those without the original game files.

Hi BlackHoleStar,

a quick-and-dirty way to get the bonus material working is this:

1. Download the bonus-disc from the link in my first post
2. Navigate to the folder in which Darklands is installed (for instance.: F:\Games\Darklands\DARKLAND)
3. Extract the data from the bonus disc into the DARKLAND-folder
4. Navigate to the folder in which the game's Dosbox-configuration-files are installed (one folder above DARKLAND)
5. Locate the file "dosboxDarklands_single.conf" and make three copies of it, called (for instance)
- dosboxDarklands_artwork.conf
- dosboxDarklands_jukebox.conf
- dosboxDarklands_editor.conf

6. Open each of the files with notepad and navigate to the end. You'll see a line 'DARKLAND.EXE'. Replace this with respectively:
- ARTGLLRY.EXE
- JUKEBOX.EXE
- EDITOR.EXE

7. Locate the shortcut "Launch Darklands.lnk" and - once again - make three copies of it, called (for instance)
- Launch Artwork
- Launch Jukebox
- Launch Editor

8. Right-click on each of the shortcuts and locate the 'Target'-box. It should contain a line like this:

F:\Games\Darklands\DOSBOX\DOSBox.exe -conf "..\dosboxDarklands.conf" -conf "..\dosboxDarklands_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit

9. Replace the "dosboxDarklands_single.conf" part in each of the shortcuts with one of the filenames you created earlier. (e.g. "dosboxDarklands_artwork.conf" etc.)

10. All done! You should now be able to start each program separately.
